One.God-moding is forbidden. This includes: controlling another's character, dying for mundane purposes (random character sympathy and etcerta) ,expecting everyone to bend to the will of your character (unless some powerful telepath), killing another's character without permission and making your character out to be so powerful they can't be stopped. (unless you're apocolypse or Wolverine verse Magneto. Metalhead has one over on the man made of adamtium you know.) Overall, see rule II. Two. Common sense is a must. Three.Because it is the world of X-Men, characters are allowed to die only once and come back. Use it wisely; see rule II. Four. The character limit is limitless. Use your common sense. five. Homosexual characters are limited; characters who have blatant sexualities preferring one sex alone, or both sexes are to stay the same. Even if it's not stated outright in words but there are plenty of actions, don't argue on this. Characters who are obscure in nature or have not expressed much interest in one gender or the other may be made with that preference.
There is only one character as such to a player, no more than that. This rule has been made because yaoi/slash tends to take over a game, while the mods aren't prejudice at all, we're not really fond of the yaoi/slash. We have seen it not only overrule, but pretty much ruin things as well.
If this rule isn't to your liking, of course there are other games to be played. Six.This is movie verse set after X-2; aliens, and other odd out of this world races in different dimensions do not exist as of yet.
Seven.Playby's are to remain those in the movies for the main characters, you are not forced to use playbys from X3 or those who have had very minor roles.
Characters who did not appear in the movies; choose their PB's wisely depending on what arc or dimension you choose your character from in the X-Men universe(s).
Again, we say this because who's PB is who's also becomes such a centerpiece in a game; overtaking it. Don't slap Jared Padalecki on Alex Summers because he's 'what's in' slap Jared on someone because he really fits that character.
Comic book pictures and icons are allowed to be used if you wish long as you have a pb. Eight.Exclipt sexual behavior in roleplay is prohibited. Keeping the game between PG-13 and R is a must. Violence, language and other happenings do happen in the x-universe but sexual threads are the same as yaoi/slash games, they overrule and seem to make a game mindless. We're not deadset against them but there's such a thing as tasteful R, fade to black and not doing it at all.
Those under the age of eighteen are not allowed to participate in R sexual theads, enjoy your youth, the fade to blacks and nothing at all. Ten. While the mods are game-masters, we are not babysitters. Please keep this in mind.
We're not into leading you by the hand, this doesn't mean we don't have plots in mind or won't be leading you into the greater good and we know you'll be with us on it but we don't want to dictate your every move as players.
Having your own plots is welcomed and enjoyed, even if it is something of devastation. Though do not make a plot that will affect everyone in the rp unless okayed by everyone, while this may seem tedious; it's common sense. All it takes is a heads up and answered by your fellow players. The out of character community is good for this.
Out Game
One.We as mods reserve the right to reject any application, indeed it's based upon our opinion or what we view what makes a character. We're not nazis, and we probably won't reject anyone long as in-game rule II is followed. Two.Wait seventy-two hours before receiving a reply to your application or questions. Both Amanda and Cameron need to have a look. Proceeding this; holds will last one week, and will only be extended if asked. After so many extensions we'll be wary of extending to you again. Three.Respect mods and fellow players. You will certainly want the same for yourself. Drama is a no-no, if you have a issue with something or someone then take it to the mods and we will get it resolved. Four.Age limit; 15+. We won't reconsider. Five.We don't play favorites. We're fair and like to keep it that way. ♥ Six.Being active is a must; but you don't have to be gunho about it. If you're crunched for time but still want to play; a post every two weeks is needed. Activity checks will happen every week or so. If you're gone and unresponsive for more than a few weeks, we'd like a heads up. Seven. Game is thread based and takes place in carnal_legions third person view, journals are used for first person view. Messenger plays are allowed but isn't considered in-game until posted to the community. All out of character is to be kept to carnal_ooc
Other than that, we're strict with some things but certainly not harsh.
Some of these questions have been asked and others we think should be safely addressed from the get-go. They really aren't needed for reading unless you get curious about a character or have some questions that need to be answered and if you have one that isn't address here then simply e-mail clxmods@gmail.com, we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Regarding applying for a character
Can I play an original character? No. There are plenty enough X-men characters, large and small roles in the comics. You can research them and look them up if you haven't read enough of them. All it takes is a click of a button and a little time devoted to skimming. But having no oc's limits creativity! Might I suggest a non-x-men game? Otherwise; tough luck and love on canon. What if all major and minor roles are taken over? Then we'd probably consider it but we can doubt all day that it'll happen. I'm afraid of playing canon... what if I'm not good? Take a chance, do what's stated above. We're not about to judge you as long as you're having fun. You'll most likely do better than what you believe of yourself. Aside from the etablished characters in the movies. Does it matter which arc or saga of the X-Men series I play my character from? Do you mean 'Can I play evolution: Avanlanche?' oppossed to Comic book Avanlanche? Think of it carefully. The X-Men movies do follow a borderline of the original X-Men comic as far as I can see aside from some minor alterations, but yeah, it's fine. There's just certain arcs and such that don't fit. Use common sense. I want to play an X-Men character from the future... Can I do that? Characters such as Marvel Girl (Rachel Summers), and Cable would definitely be inappropiate at this point in time. As would some others. Characters like Bishop may be played at a younger state, but someone from the past would definitely have tampered with the future in order for characters like MGirl and Cable to be played not to mention the bloodline okayed by players. Overall; talk to a mod, we'll discuss it, work it out and come to a conclusion. I play a relatively evil character. Does being an enemy of the X-Men and other 'hero' teams mean I am only good for plot purposes? Hell no. You're good for all purposes. While the fun does come in bad guys verses good guys, if you're only a fan of the films than you probably don't know that most definitely the bad guys have a life outside of criminal activity. Do also keep in mind it's like people having different opinions. One group understands and shares the same opinion, while the other does the same but the shared opinion is different between these two groups.
Evil views good as Evil, and Good views Evil as Evil. While that may not make any sense; basically to teh enemy you aren't in the right but even then there are truly evil characters. Let's also not forget that two groups may have the same existing goal while disagreeing on how to achieve that goal and ultimately making them enemies.
In Conclusion; don't be afraid to be part of the considered bad teams. There's too many possibilities for your character that you can just write them off so simply and decide to play the good guy. Does everything take place at the X-Mansion? Who told you that? Of course not, the Marvel world does expand you know. There are cities, states, continents and everywhere else these things could and will be taking place.
Should I tread on this?
What's with the sexuality rules? Is this some kind of conspiracy? Why can't all my characters be gay? Why are you even asking the sexuality question? Believe it or not, I used to ask that very same question and even get angry over it. The deal is; sexuality seems to take over a game with such ease that all original tendencies are forgotten, it's very annoying and downright sad. Slash seems to be in particular one of those things that can consume and derail a game, this does not disclude the fact that heterosexual relationships in games do quite the same thing.
If you happen to state your character as one sexuality and later on they suddenly become another, we'll definitely be watching. We understand it does happen, but only so many instances 'happen.' and we won't stand for it.
This is why those rules are in place.
In Conclusion; if you don't like it, then this isn't the game for you. Do I need to keep canon romances? Of course not, roleplay isn't about keeping some martial or relationship obligations. It is one part in the fun of games but it's not everything, and while we respect canon and like playing around with it, a character grows in these things as does everything else. Therefore don't limit your character to canon in the entirity at all no matter what direction you may take in any part of this. I'd like my character to take over (insert group name here) but it says this person is the original leader. Would this be okay? It depends, really depends. We don't mind a welcome change of leadership to a team/and or group from the series, unless of course the character is so heavily known as that group's leader or that player's character has decided not to take over leadership. Much like the series, leaders do tend to change and surprise people in the long run or share such positions. So send in that leader application if you wish. The character I want to play is kinda.... dead. What do I do? Well, come to us. They may be playable. Characters such as Toad and Sabertooth definitely have replay potential, we seen them fall off the statue of liberty and not directly and intently die.
Jean may very well still be alive but people that obviously died, are obviously dead. Senator Kelly is not waiting in the lab too be revived by a single drop of blood, that will cling to the recesses of a long forgotten mop that swirled away his remains. :O Basically; if we didn't see the entire death. They didn't die. Can I play a human? Why yes, however there are plenty enough mentioned non-mutants in the comics, and or TV shows. Take them for a mold, all rules stated about mutants also apply to humans in terms of guidelines. Does playing a human mean I'll have less game play? No. Of course not, once again humans also play a role in X-Men and certainly have lives. Mutants and Non-mutated humans interact together in the comics yes? Some also were pro or anti mutant yes? Did not some of them have direct help or plots in storylines that had to do with the big guns? Alright. Nothing wrong with playing a human. Can I play someone from the goverment? Be our guest. The goverment is often more ignorant on subject matters discluding a select few who aren't. So it's perfectly fine if you play someone who's involved in the government or even the president. How about characters who aren't technically mutants? That's quite fine, even though it's never mentioned in the movieverse about certain non-mutants who have powers by all means they are allowed for play as well and do not need to be mutants in order to have their powers unless you want them to be. What if I want my human character to be a mutant? That... this is tricky. Keep them human for awhile until we reach that conclusion, it's not impossible for a dormat x gene to start taking action. There will certainly be a prohibited power list if that arrives. I want to use a character for NPC purposes. Can I? LONG as it does not involve romance, being the long lost sibling/mother/father of another character and is not out of character for them, we might say yes. Do not for any reason start npcing a untaken character without the permission of the mods. Such and such is npcing this character.... I really want to play them, and I don't think it's right that they're only NPCS. Talk it over with the mod or player. They may only be npcing for plotline reasons, and willing to hand you the character with short-term exceptations. Amanda might hiss your way though, she loves her bald headed wheelchair bound leader... as does Cameron. They might both hiss. Is it alright if I play someone else's character? That answer is obvious; no, unless you've been given permission by the player for any reason that the player has for you playing their character.
